Cramele Recas, Solevari Reserve Feteasca Regala 2022

Get to know: Cramele Recas, Solevari Reserve Feteasca Regala

Tasting Note

A seriously modern wine using the indigenous Feteasca Regala grape. This is full of charm with slight floral notes and gentle aromas of peaches, pears and pineapple fruit. It's instantly refreshing on palate thanks to the mouth watering acidity and it glides across the palate with elegance revealing a little minerality on a lengthy dry finish with a little grip that is characteristic of this grape.

This is a versatile wine for food pairing and can be enjoyed with chicken salads or a seared tuna steak.

Kate Says

"Cramele Recas make some brilliant value wine using well known grapes, but with this they showcase some real native character. Feteascã Regalã is much easier to drink than it is to pronounce, full of aromatic fruit and gentle minerality. I'd enjoy this with a grilled mackerel."

Producer Info

Blend: Feteasca Regala 95% Chardonnay 5%

Solevari Feteascã Regalã comes from selected areas of the vineyard with fractured Limestone and light clay soils. Typically they are the areas known to produce better grapes. The grapes are given an extended ripening period to allow development of more intense flavour. The grippy mouth feel, typical for Feteascã Regalã is well expressed in this wine by allowing full fermentation to dryness, to create a sophisticated palate.

Grapes destemmed and lightly crushed, cooled and immediately pressed, cooled again then must fully clarified using floatation. Controlled fermentation in stainless steel for 14 days at 13ºC, then a further 30 days in new French oak with lees stirring.

The Cramele Recas Estate, owned by Englishman, Philip Cox and his Romanian wife Elvira, have put in a huge amount of work into transforming their slice of grape growing history into a contemporary winemaking haven. Winemaking team, Hartley Smithers from Australia, and Nora Iriate from Spain, together veterans of over 50 harvests in all the world's wine producing regions, oversee the production of all the wines from grapes till bottle with a fanatical attention to detail. The philosophy is simple- to apply the absolute best production methods to every single wine, to enhance and preserve the natural quality of the grapes, and provide a consistently high quality product every year for every level of wine made.
