Chateau Saransot-Dupre, Listrac-Medoc Cru Bourgeois 2018

Get to know: Chateau Saransot-Dupre, Listrac-Medoc Cru Bourgeois 2018

Tasting Note

A classic Left Bank claret from a rising star of Listrac – rich, refined, and ready to impress.

This 2018 vintage from Château Saransot-Dupré is a confident, characterful Médoc red. Deep ruby in the glass, it opens with inviting aromas of black cherry, plum compote, dried herbs and a hint of cedar. On the palate, it’s smooth and well-structured with ripe blackberry fruit, spice box warmth and a touch of earthy depth. Polished tannins and a fresh, savoury finish round it off beautifully.

Top food pairings:

  • Slow-roasted lamb shoulder with rosemary and garlic
  • Mushroom and lentil bourguignon
  • Cheese: Mature cheddar or aged Gouda work a treat

This is your Sunday roast or mid-winter dinner party red – proper food wine, with just the right amount of polish.

Kate Says

"This one ticks all the boxes if you're after a great-value Bordeaux with some real finesse. It's got plenty of dark fruit and structure but doesn’t overwhelm – smooth, satisfying and a little bit special. If you're trying Listrac-Médoc for the first time, start here."

Producer Info

Château Saransot-Dupré is one of the top estates in Listrac-Médoc, a lesser-known but quality-driven appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. The estate has been in the hands of the Raymond family for generations and is known for crafting refined wines with ageing potential and great value.

What sets it apart:

  • Cru Bourgeois status – recognition for consistent quality
  • Gravelly, clay-limestone soils – ideal for growing structured, balanced reds
  • Grape varieties: A classic Bordeaux blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a dash of Petit Verdot and Malbec for added spice and colour

Winemaking approach:

  • Traditional vinification with a modern touch
  • Aged in oak barrels (around 30% new) for 12–14 months
  • Bottled after gentle clarification and maturation for smoothness and longevity

The 2018 vintage was warm and generous, and this wine reflects that – ripe fruit, silky texture, and plenty of depth without losing elegance.
