Charles Frey Sylvaner 2023

Get to know: Charles Frey Sylvaner Intemporel 2023

An expressive Alsace white wine made from Sylvaner, grown around Dambach-la-Ville in the heart of Alsace.

Tasting Note

Charles Frey Sylvaner Intemporel is a fresh, easy-going white with a bit more depth than you might expect. Golden in colour, it leans into citrus and orchard fruit with hints of ripe pear, lemon zest and a gentle floral lift. There’s a subtle savoury edge too – a touch of herbal character and a light mineral note that gives it shape. On the palate, it’s bright and lively, with crisp acidity keeping everything in check, while a soft, rounded texture stops it feeling too sharp. The finish is clean, lightly zesty and just long enough to keep things interesting. A really well-balanced Alsace white wine that quietly shows its quality.

Top food pairings:

  • Fresh seafood like prawns, mussels or grilled fish
  • Charcuterie boards with cured meats and pickles
  • Soft, creamy cheeses
Kate Says

"An understated gem and from one of our favourite producers. It’s the kind of wine that once you’ve tried it, you’ll keep coming back. Definitely one worth discovering if you’re after something a bit different from your usual white. Think somewhere between a good Pinot Gris and a lighter style of Sauvignon Blanc."

Producer Info

Domaine Charles Frey is a long-established family estate in Alsace, with roots in Dambach-la-Ville going back to the 18th century. They were ahead of the curve when it came to organic and biodynamic winemaking, converting the vineyards in the 1990s. Working with granitic soils and a hands-off approach in the cellar, they focus on letting the vineyards do the talking, producing wines that feel honest, characterful and true to Alsace.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 100% Sylvaner
  • Harvested when ripe but still fresh to keep that natural acidity
  • Gentle pressing to keep flavours clean and precise
  • Fermented in temperature-controlled tanks to hold onto the fruit
  • Aged with minimal intervention in a natural, bioclimatic cellar

Good to know:

  • Region: Alsace, France
  • Style: White, still, light- to medium-bodied
  • Closure: Cork
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 12%
  • Vintage: 2023

Why we love it:

This Alsace white wine is a great introduction of how good Sylvaner can be – fresh, gently mineral and really food-friendly. It’s an easy one to enjoy, but with enough character to make it worth coming back to.
