Cantine Sampietrana, Settebraccia 2021

Get to know: Cantine Sampietrana Settebraccia

A rich, oak-aged Puglian red wine from fruit grown on old bush vines.

Tasting Note

Settebraccia is a powerful Negroamaro–Susumaniello blend, named after the traditional seven-pronged farming tools of the Salento region. Deep ruby in the glass with aromas of jammy black fruit, vanilla, clove and a whisper of dried herb. On the palate it's full-bodied and rounded: black cherry, plum and baked berry layered over soft tannins and a warm, velvety texture. The finish is long and lingering, with a touch of oak and a savoury spiced edge. Built for hearty meals or slow Sunday evenings.

Top food pairings:

  • Vegan aubergine parmigiana with rich tomato sauce
  • Slow-roasted lamb shoulder with rosemary and garlic
  • Aged cheeses such as Pecorino or mature Cheddar
Kate Says

"This is a big, serious wine from the south of Italy made from the wonderfully named grapes Negroamaro and Susumaniello. Rich, full of character, and a perfect choice for a gift or a cosy dinner."

Producer Info

Cantine Sampietrana has been crafting expressive wines in the heart of Salento, southern Puglia, since 1952. Their Settebraccia range pays homage to the region’s traditional farming tools and deep roots in the land. The estate’s old bush vines in the clay-limestone soils of Brindisi deliver low yields with concentrated flavours, while sustainable practices and minimal intervention in the vineyard and cellar ensure authentic, characterful wines.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: Negroamaro – Susumaniello
  • Hand-harvested in early October, selecting the ripest and partially dried grapes
  • Gently crushed to preserve fruit integrity
  • Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to retain purity
  • Aged for 6–8 months in French and American oak barrels to add structure, depth, and savoury notes

Good to know:

  • Region: Salento, Puglia, Italy
  • Style: Red, still, full-bodied
  • Closure: Cork
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 14.5%
  • Vintage: 2021

Why we love it:

This is the bottle we hand to anyone who tells us they want "a proper, full-bodied red." Layered, jammy fruit; soft oak; warm Puglian spice - and a price that makes it easy to keep stocked. Brilliant with roast lamb, hearty veg, or a cheeseboard at the end of a long week. Southern Italian comfort in liquid form.
