Bethany Creek, Barossa Shiraz 2020

Get to know: Bethany ‘Bethany Creek’ Shiraz 2020

A bold and characterful Barossa Valley Shiraz from one of South Australia’s most historic winemaking families.

Tasting Note

Bethany Creek is a rich, full-flavoured red that marries dark fruit with lifted spice. Crafted from low-yielding old vines, this wine showcases the depth of flavour for which the Barossa is renowned. Deep ruby in colour with aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and hints of clove and pepper. On the palate, this Shiraz is plush yet structured, with layers of ripe dark berries, subtle savoury spice, and fine tannins. The long, juicy finish leaves lingering notes of fruit and gentle oak warmth.

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled ribeye steak with rosemary and garlic butter
  • Slow-cooked lamb shanks in red wine sauce
  • Rich tomato-based casseroles
Kate Says

"The label might be a bit dated, but this is great value for money in the glass. Indulgent yet balanced, soft, rounded, complex, fine grained tannins... and of course bags of toasty fruit. Perfect for a slow Sunday roast or a fireside evening."

Producer Info

Bethany Wines has deep roots in the Barossa, with the Schrapel family planting their first vines in 1852. Now in its fifth generation, the estate blends traditional viticulture with skilled, small-batch winemaking to express the richness of their corner of the Barossa Valley. Brothers Robert and Geoff established Bethany Wines in 1981. They built a winery in the quarry where the early pioneers had hewn stone for their homes. They crushed 2 tonnes of Shiraz and Riesling, launching the next chapter of the Schrapel wine story.

How it’s made:

  • Grapes: 100% Shiraz
  • Low-yielding old vines hand-pruned to limit yields and intensify flavour
  • Crushed and destemmed before eight days on skins in open fermenters
  • Gentle pump-overs for optimal colour and tannin extraction
  • Matured for 12 months in seasoned French oak barrels

Good to know:

  • Region: Barossa Valley, South Australia
  • Style: Red, still, full-bodied
  • Closure: Screwcap
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 14.5%
  • Vintage: 2020

Why we love it:

This Barossa Valley Shiraz captures everything that makes the region famous – ripe dark fruit, signature spice, and a velvety structure. It’s a versatile food wine that will impress at dinner parties.
