Get to know: Andre Perret Condrieu 2022
Viognier from the granite slopes of Condrieu - an aromatic French white wine from the Northern Rhône.
Tasting Note
Pale yellow in the glass and very aromatic, with ripe peach and apricot jumping out first. It's fresh on the palate, with the richness Viognier gives and enough lift to keep it bright. Half the wine spent time in wood, which adds a little roundness. The finish is long and complex.
Top food pairings:
- Seared scallops with pea purée
- Green asparagus with lemon and olive oil
- Rigotte de Condrieu or another soft goat's cheese
Kate Says
"Condrieu can produce such captivating wines. Served a touch less cold than most whites, Viognier like this opens up and shows you all that peach and apricot. It's a lovely one for a dinner party - serve it with a starter of shellfish or asparagus."
Producer Info
André Perret makes wine in Condrieu in the Northern Rhône, from several parcels facing south and south-east. Work in the vineyard is manual, with treatments only when needed, and a green harvest and leaf thinning in July and August.
How it's made:
- Grapes come from several granite parcels, with vines averaging 20 years old and yields of about 40 hl/ha
- Half the production ferments in stainless steel and half in wood
