Saint-Jean de Villecroze Rouge 2021

Get to know: Saint-Jean de Villecroze Rouge 2021

A structured yet approachable Provence red wine from the classic vineyards of the Côtes de Provence.

Tasting Note

Saint-Jean de Villecroze Rouge 2021 is a balanced and expressive red that combines ripe fruit with subtle spice and a touch of oak influence. Deep ruby with purple reflections in colour, it opens with complex aromas of blackberry, black cherry, violet, and a gentle hint of peppery spice from the Syrah. On the palate, this blend is medium-bodied and well structured, with juicy black fruit flavours, soft tannins, and a smooth, rounded texture. A short period in French oak brings a delicate note of vanilla on the finish, adding depth without overpowering the fruit. A polished and characterful Côtes de Provence red with broad appeal.

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled steak or a classic beef roast
  • Farmhouse cheeses such as Comté or Tomme
  • Slow-cooked lamb with herbs
Kate Says

"This has a bit more depth than you might expect from a Provence red – there’s proper structure here, but it still keeps that easy, drinkable feel. Great when you want something a step up from everyday."

Producer Info

Domaine Saint Jean de Villecroze is a historic and highly regarded estate in Provence, with roots stretching back to antiquity and a winemaking tradition shaped by Roman and Templar influence. Set in the Haut Var between the Alps and the Mediterranean, the vineyard benefits from a unique microclimate where warm sunshine is balanced by the cooling Mistral winds. This allows for low-intervention viticulture and a gradual move towards organic farming, producing authentic and expressive Provence wines.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 80% Syrah, 20% Cinsault
  • Hand-harvested to ensure optimal ripeness and quality
  • Traditional vinification with temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats
  • Aged for 6 months in French oak barrels for added depth and complexity
  • Carefully blended prior to bottling to maintain consistency and balance
