Paul Jaboulet Aine, Hermitage Petite Chapelle 2009

Get to know: Paul Jaboulet Aine, Hermitage Petite Chapelle 2009

Tasting Note

Don't miss this opportunity to try an iconic Rhône Syrah from an excellent vintage. The nose is meaty with great intensity with aromas of blackberry violet and anise, espresso and roasted vanilla. The palate powerful and dense with mouth staining colour and sleek and glossy texture and a long spicy finish. The layers of flavour are worth taking your time over to tease out all the subtleties and nuances as it charms you with every sip.

Enjoy this with a roast pheasant.

Kate Says

"From the legendary Paul Jaboulet Aîné, this is the second wine of the iconic Hermitage La Chapelle. As good an expression of Rhône Valley Syrah as your ever likely to find, from a fantastic vintage and drinking well now. Pair this with some hearty, decadent food and you're in heaven."

Producer Info

One of the most respected producers in the Rhône Valley, Domaines Paul Jaboulet Aîné's history began in 1834. The father of Paul and Henry founded the winery in Tain l'Hermitage and the combination of passion for winegrowing and special terroir has been a recipe for great success for generations. Today, the management of Domaines Paul Jaboulet Aîné is in the hands of Frédéric Jaboulet and Frédéric Mairesse. They were joined in 2006 by the Frey family, a family of winemakers from Champagne.

The 2009 vintage was warmer and drier than average: volumes were down and harvest was early. Ripening was quick but complete, and quality was very good. The reds are generally ageing well, and will are reaching their peak in the 2020s. Le Petite Chapelle (which has been labelled as "La Maison Bleue" since 2014) was aged in for 12 months in barrel and represents one-third of the Hermitage crop (another one-third was eliminated and the final one-third went into their top tier wine - La Chapelle).
