Paul Jaboulet Aine, Hermitage La Petite Chapelle 2010

Get to know: Paul Jaboulet Aine, Hermitage La Petite Chapelle 2010

Tasting Note

A rare chance to try an iconic Rhône Syrah from a superb vintage. This is a deeply flavoured and richly savoury red from the steep slopes of the famous Hermitage hill. Notes of blackcurrant jam, pepper and hints of new saddle leather as well as earthy roasted cedaron the nose. The palate has cassis, blackberry and iron notes joining the flavours from the nose. Ample cocoa flavors course through the finish. This supple, rich, and full beauty should drink well from now and up to 5-10 years.

Enjoy this with a Chateaubriand in a Red Wine-Mushroom Reduction and Pommes Purée.

Kate Says

"From the legendary Paul Jaboulet Aîné, this is the second wine of the iconic Hermitage La Chapelle. As good an expression of Rhône Valley Syrah as your ever likely to find, from a fantastic vintage and drinking well now. Pair this with some hearty decadent food and you're in heaven."

Producer Info

One of the most respected producers in the Rhône Valley, Domaines Paul Jaboulet Aîné's history began in 1834. The father of Paul and Henry founded the winery in Tain l'Hermitage and the combination of passion for winegrowing and special terroir has been a recipe for great success for generations. Today, the management of Domaines Paul Jaboulet Aîné is in the hands of Frédéric Jaboulet and Frédéric Mairesse. They were joined in 2006 by the Frey family, a family of winemakers from Champagne.

The 2010 vintage delivered low yields of exceptionally good quality. It has been hyped as one of the very best years in the northern Rhône. Le Petite Chapelle was aged in barrel and represents one-third of the Hermitage crop (another one-third was eliminated and the final one-third went into their top tier wine - La Chapelle).
