Get to know: Alpha Box & Dice, 'Golden Mullet of Fury'
This is a terrific wine that demonstrates all the character and quality fruit you expect from Alpha Box, applied to a co-fermented, skin contact white wine. This vintage gives a more palatable approach to skin contact white wine from previous vintages adding a the fruit brightness and acid lick of Muscat, without surrendering its character or funk. Notes of preserved lemon, curry leaf, nectarines, hint of marmalade on the nose. Racy acidity with chalky tannins and a real mouthwatering finish. Refreshing yet textural.
Try this with Moroccan chicken.
A modern, cutting-edge collection of wines from the passionate trio of Dylan and Justin Fairweather and winemaker Sam Berketa. AB&D was founded in McLaren Vale in 2008 and is unconventional in its approach; there are no ‘regional, varietal or stylistic’ boundaries, just great wines from great fruit.
Each component in the GMF was treated individually. The Semillon was destemmed whilst the Muscat had 60% whole bunch with the remaining crushed on top. Both were fermented until dry with wild yeast and spent an extra week on skins to build texture. The Riesling was handpicked with >65% Botrytis affected grapes, pressed for 3 hours long and slow then wild fermented for 4 months in old barrels until dry. All were aged separately in seasoned oak and went through spontaneous MLF, with the Muscat and Semillon both spending 9 months in a large format cask.
This wine is suitable for consumption by Vegetarians and Vegans.
