Get to know: Pazo do Mar, 'Cantos De Meigas' 2024
A bright and expressive Galician white.
Tasting Note
This vibrant blend of native grapes delivers citrus freshness, smooth tropical fruit and a creamy, mouth-watering texture. The name translates as “Songs of the Witches” — a nod to the folklore of north-west Spain. It bursts with lime, grapefruit and peach, lifted by delicate floral notes and a touch of spice. The palate is soft and rounded, with a creamy midweight feel and a refreshing citrus finish. Complex, crisp and full of personality.
Top food pairings:
- Grilled prawns with garlic and chilli
- Goat’s cheese and herb-stuffed peppers
- Seafood risotto with lemon and fennel
Kate Says
"I love how this showcases the lesser-known grapes of Galicia. Crisp, fresh and persistent with lime, pineapple, apple and a salty minerality, good intensity and length. Ideal with seafood or just chilled on a sunny evening."
Producer Info
Pazo do Mar is a family-run estate founded by the Méndez family in 2002. Located in Galicia’s Ribeiro region, their vineyards sit 150 metres above sea level on granite and slate soils. With a strong focus on native grapes like Treixadura, Albariño and Godello, they balance tradition with innovation to craft wines with clarity, freshness and a strong sense of place.
How it’s made:
- Blend of five native varieties: Treixadura, Torrontés, Albariño, Loureiro and Godello
- Hand-picked grapes cold macerated and gently pressed
- Each variety fermented separately in stainless steel at 16°C
- Aged on fine lees for one month to add creaminess and texture
- Bottled without oak to preserve fruit purity and aromatics
