Daniel Ramos, Kpi Amphorae 2018

Get to know: Daniel Ramos Kpi Amphorae Garnacha 2018

A distinctive and characterful Spanish red wine from the rugged, high-altitude slopes of the Gredos mountains.

Tasting Note

Daniel Ramos ‘Kappi’ Amphorae Garnacha 2018 is an expressive and delicately structured red that showcases old-vine fruit and traditional craftsmanship. Pale ruby in colour with lifted aromas of wild strawberries, red cherry, mountain herbs, and a touch of dusty minerality from the Gredos terroir. On the palate, this Garnacha is silky and refined, offering gentle red fruit, fine tannins, and a subtle savoury thread from its long maceration. It finishes with a soft, elegant persistence and a lovely natural harmony. A beautifully balanced Gredos Garnacha with real depth and personality.

Top food pairings:

  • Chargrilled lamb chops with rosemary and garlic
  • Roast chicken with paprika potatoes
  • Manchego and cured meats
Kate Says

"This is Garnacha with soul – soft, earthy, and just a bit wild. As Daniel says - "All the herbal complexity one could ever want." It's the kind of bottle I open when I want something thoughtful but effortlessly drinkable."

Producer Info

Daniel Ramos is an Australian-born winemaker who has made his home in the Gredos mountains, crafting expressive Garnacha and Albillo Real from ancient vines. Known as “Kapi” to his friends, he works with minimal intervention, allowing the region’s rugged granitic soils and high-altitude climate to shine. His approach – nothing added, nothing taken away – results in wines with natural balance, depth, and a strong sense of place.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 100% old-vine Garnacha (around 60 years old)
  • Hand-harvested in September for ripe yet fresh fruit
  • Fermented slowly and naturally in large 1,000L clay tinajas
  • Long maceration with skins until the following summer, allowing the cap to sink and act as a natural filter
  • Bottled with minimal intervention to preserve purity and structure

Good to know:

  • Region: Gredos, Spain
  • Style: Red, still, medium-bodied
  • Closure: Cork
  • Vegan: Yes (minimal intervention; no additions)
  • ABV: 15%
  • Vintage: 2018

Why we love it:

This Gredos red wine brings together delicate Garnacha fruit, herbal lift, and a beautiful texture shaped by traditional amphora ageing. It’s a soulful, naturally made wine that shines with simple suppers or a quiet evening in.
