Kate Says

"This is the kind of red you can pour all evening and still have people asking for more. Juicy, floral, and just the right side of smooth – perfect for Sunday lunch or a relaxed evening with tapas."

Producer Info

Celler de Capçanes is a respected co-operative in the tiny Catalan village of Capçanes, blending tradition with innovation. Since the early 1990s, Jürgen Wagner and winemaker Anna Rovira have worked with local growers to craft wines that capture the unique Montsant terroir. The vineyards’ mix of alluvial, granite and slate soils, combined with careful viticulture, produces red wines that are both expressive and approachable, celebrating the region’s Garnacha and other indigenous grapes.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: Grenache 35%, Merlot 30%, Syrah 20%
  • Harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve aromatic intensity
  • Fermented separately in stainless steel tanks with 8–10 days maceration
  • Temperature-controlled fermentation (22–25°C) to enhance aromas and preserve freshness
  • Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel; no oak ageing to maintain pure fruit character

Good to know:

  • Region: DO Montsant, Catalonia, Spain
  • Style: Red, still, medium-bodied
  • Closure: Screwcap
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 14%

Why we love it:

This Montsant red wine offers a beautiful balance of juicy red fruit, gentle spice and silky tannins. It’s a versatile wine that works brilliantly with food, yet is charming and easy enough to enjoy on its own – a perfect introduction to the characterful reds of Catalonia.
