Atamisque Malbec 2021

Get to know: Atamisque Malbec

Tasting Note

A modern Malbec Masterpiece produced from intense grown on 90 year old vines. The result is a pristine red wine with an inky purple in appearance and wonderful top notes of violets, blackberries, figs and wild herbs on the nose, under-pinned by intense dried raisin with hints of tobacco and coffee. The wine is deep, concentrated and voluptuous with blackberry jam and plum. Balanced with a smooth texture before a long, fresh and elegant finish. This is lovely to drink now, but has the structure to age handsomely for 15 years or more.

Try this with a ribyeye steak, beef wellington or a charred aubergine chilli.

Kate Says

"This is the flagship wine of a seriously good winery producing powerful, oaky malbecs with a modern freshness. There's such a pure intensity to the flavour and the palate is immediately satisfying. A great wine to give a Malbec lover as a gift or show off at your next dinner party with friends."

Producer Info

Located in the district of San José in Tupungato, Uco Valley, this stunning yet simple winery is the first you will see on the famous ‘Ruta del Vino’, Route 86. The humble slate roofs and drably coloured walls host an extremely impressive modern facility, where winemaker Philippe Caraguel quietly plies his trade, bringing a touch of French restraint to the fruits of these 100% estate-owned vineyards, many of which boast some particularly old vines.

The fruit for this wine comes from La Consulta at 3600 feet above sea level. Gentle drip irrigation is used for minimal impact on the sandy alluvial soil above rocky foundations and vines are over 90 years old. Grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel with days skin-contact before transferring to 100% new French oak barrels to compete malolactic fermentation and mature for 14 months before release.
