Andreas Syrah 2021

Get to know: Andreas Syrah

Tasting Note

Bright, deep red colour with pinkish edges. Fresh, vibrant nose of forest fruits, with touches of spice and caramel and notes of hazelnut and dry prunes. Touch of vanilla flavours, indicating good usage of oak. Delicate palate with expression of ripe sweet red fruits, sour cherries, raspberries and notes of spice and pepper and fine tannins that offer structure. Fruity, round, complex and full finish. Ageing potential of three to five years, but ready to drink as already full, dry and complex, with fruity richness.

Try this with a sirloin steak.

Kate Says

"This is an outstanding wine from a tiny estate. It's really gorgeous rich and powerful but not overblown - just well made and gets better with every new vintage. One to have with something special."

Producer Info

A historic wine estate producing award-winning Syrah. A destination of awe-inspiring beauty – off the beaten track. Nestling in the Bovlei Valley, just outside Wellington, the Andreas Wine Estate is a hidden gem comprising 4.5 hectares of vineyards, an elegant eighteenth-century house and lush gardens.

Long, hot summer days, cooled by late afternoon breezes, chilly, wet winters and decomposed granite and shale combine to provide the perfect terroir for Andreas’ award-winning Syrah. Small, dark and flavoursome berries are at the heart of this noble cultivar, transformed into magnificent wine in their cellar.

In 2015 the estate was acquired by a group of U.K. wine enthusiasts under the banner of Andreas Wine Trading. Their ambition is to build on the heritage and reputation of the estate and its wine, taking both to new levels of excellence.
