Folding Hill, Orchard Block 2021

Get to know: Folding Hill ‘Orchard Block’ Pinot Noir 2020

Tasting Note

This Central Otago Pinot Noir is a powerful yet elegant expression of the Bendigo sub-region. Deep cherry-red to garnet in colour, the nose bursts with sweet red and dark berry fruit, earthy notes, dried herbs, and toasty oak spice. The palate delivers juicy blackberry, raspberry, and blueberry flavours, wrapped in silky tannins and bright acidity, leading to a long, bone-dry finish. Decant for at least 30 minutes to fully reveal its complexity.

Try this with roast duck, lamb, or wild mushroom risotto.

Kate Says

"An outstanding Pinot Noir from a top-notch organic producer. With layers of rich fruit, savoury spice, and beautiful structure, it’s drinking beautifully now but will reward patience in the cellar for years to come."

Producer Info

Folding Hill is a small, family-run vineyard established by Tim and Nikki Kerruish, in partnership with Anne Charlesworth, in Bendigo, Central Otago, crafting organically certified Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyard was planted in 2003, focusing on carefully selected Pinot Noir clones for complexity and balance. Hand-harvested and fermented with a mix of wild and selected yeasts, the wine is aged in Francois Frere Medium Toast barrels, then bottled unfiltered and unfined. The really hard work is done by Nikki who combines a career in Bioethics and looking after 4 children with all the accounting and compliance needs of the company. Viticulture is by award winning viticulturalist James Dicey and his Grape Vision crew, with winemaking being headed by the experienced and very talented winemaker Fred Riends.
