Get to know: Libre Y Salvaje Camino del Bosque
Tasting Note
A big and inviting oak aged blend of Grenache and Carignan that would appeal to fans of Malbec. On the nose it is intense with aromatic notes of toffee, clove, violet and dried black cherry, blackberry and plum. It mingles with savoury, smokey notes of cedar, old wood, eucalyptus and fig. On the palate it is medium-to full bodied with a bold sweet fruited core supported by ripe tannins and a food friendly acidity that leads to a long finish.
Try this with a rump steak or lamb tagine.
Producer Info
The winery is in the historic town of Almonacid de la Sierra in the Algairén mountain range Algairé, D.O. Cariñena. Creating landscape wines which speak of a unique land is the essence and passion of Libre y Salvaje (Free & Wild). Freestyle, wild vines. Using minimal intervention to achieve maximum expression. High altitude vineyards of native varieties, old dry vines, and ecological agriculture. Wine is produced and aged following artisanal methods in wooden foudre, stainless steel, concrete and big clay jars in an old winery with caves for aging in an optimal natural environment. Rescue great abandoned vineyards of native varieties, recover a cellar with centuries-old caves and back to the past to look ahead. Because in life, the best is always free and wild.
Wine made with 60% Grenache and 40% Carignan grapes. The vineyards are aged between 35 and 60 years old, where the alluvial soils typical of the area predominate, very stony and with a first horizon of red clay and silt. Harvesting by hand with selection of bunches in the field. Aged in barrels for 14 months. Wooden vats and concrete tanks for the most part. French oak barrels and jars complete its ageing in the cave.
