Quinta do Vale Meao Tinto 2021

Get to know: Quinta do Vale Meão Tinto 2021, DOC Douro

Tasting Note

A sensational showcase of Portuguese winemaking and a true refelction of the wonderful terroir that winemaker Francisco Olazabal is blessed with in their unique location in the Douro Superier. Made from the grape varieties Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz, the 2021 is deep in colour, with the intensity continuing through nose and the palate. The fruit profile is very elegant this year, with excellent integration with the oak. On the nose of there is great depth and complexity with many aromatic nuances in perfect harmony. On the palate it is vibrant and elegant, with excellent integration of wood allowing the wide variety of flavors to shine all leading to a very long aftertaste.

This is showing great potential and will be sublime in 4-5 years (but could age up to 20!) If opening now, allow a good 2-3 hours in a decanter before serving.

Perfect with well-structured, flavor-rich meat and game dishes.

Producer Info

Hailing from the most famous Estate in the Douro Valley, each vintage release is awaited with baited breath.

This 21st release Quinta do Vale Meão wine comes as ever from the highest quality parcels and vineyards within the Quinta. It is a true Icon of Portugal and one of the worlds finest wines.

Of the 2021, winemaker Francisco Olazabal says:

‘The 2021 was a quiet year in terms of grape growing, with conditions being consistent throughout the year allowing for a classic vintage of Quinta do Vale Meão. The quality of both the Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca were particularly good, making up 53% and 40% of the blend respectively. I am very happy with the results of 2021, a wine that can be drunk now or will continue to age gracefully for years to come.’
