Get to know: Dominio Del Bendito, El Primer Paso Toro
Tasting Note
Powerful nose of blackberry, blackberry, black fruits, vanilla, cocoa and coffee. Intense deep fruit on the palate. Balanced, with firm but round tannins and a long, harmonious and relatively fresh finish.
Try with any kind of good red meat - grilled or roasted - and hard cheeses
Kate Says
"We were very impressed with Antony Terryn's wines and had to show off this bold red, made with the indignenous Tinta de Toro grape, that would appeal to any fans of Malbec. Enjoy this with a hearty stew."
Producer Info
Frenchman Antony Terryn arrived in Toro in 2003 and was captivated the potential for the old vine vineyards he discovered. He and his team have cultivated the vineyard organically and sustainably since 2004 - using no pesticides or fertiliser and opting for no irrigation. Meticulous pruning and careful harvesting in delimited circles to ensure the health of the vine and the surrounding genetic diversity.
El Primer Paso comes from a mix ungrafted and grafted vineyards that include vines over 45 years old in small plots located in one of the most famous and historic regions in Toro, La Jara and in the heights of Valdefinjas. Fermented in concrete tanks and aged between six and eight months in French and American barrels the wine is dense without being too much and with enough structure so that it can age well between five and ten years, but drinks well now if you like full-bodied reds.
