Le Coste, Rosso di Gaetano 2020

Gianmarco Antonuzzi and Clémentine Bouveron tend around 14 hectares of land, with vineyards amongst olive groves, chestnut trees, shrubs and oaks. Sat around Lago di Bolsena near Gianmarco’s childhood town of Gradoli in Lazio’s north, the soils are volcanic, rich in iron and minerals.

From a vineyard planted over tufo in Pitigliano, this is roughly half Sangiovese with the other half being a mix of Syrah and Merlot. It spent three weeks on skins, before being pressed off to cuve to rest for six months. Reflecting the vintage this is a little more savoury and spiced, packing plenty of black fruit, earth and bitter herbs despite being incredibly light on its feet.
