Chateau Guillot-Clauzel, Pomerol 2016

Get to know: Chateau Guillot-Clauzel, Pomerol 2016

Tasting Note

We've managed to get hold of a small parcel of this delicious Pomerol from a relatively unknown, but high quality producer. This is has an intense and complex nose of violet, dried rose, cassis, blackcurrant sour cherry, chocolate, dried herbs and strawberry. The palate is medium-bodied and dry with good acidity and more savoury plum and cassis fruit rounded off by well-integrated tannins and a long expressive finish. Outstanding quality. This has the potential to age for a further 5 years. Decant and leave for an hour before serving.

Try this with a your favourite steak cut or roast duck.

Kate Says

"2016 is such a good vintage for Bordeaux. This is a gem from Pomerol on the right-bank of the Gironde. It's merlot-led and gorgeous, drinking really well now. I'd have this with a sirloin steak."

Producer Info

Château Guillot-Clauzel sits close to many of this appellation’s most famous names, including Château Trotanoy and Le Pin but have maintained a relatively low profile over the years despite working with some very talented winemakers to producer some wonderful wines. The estate dates to at least the mid-20th century, when it was in the possession of Raymond Clauze and Henriette Giraud who subsequently passed on their vineyards, both Château Beauregard and Château Graves-Guillot, to their son, Paul Clauzel. The tiny estate is located to the north of Catusseau up a gentle slope in a dimunitive building, housing both vat room and barrel cellar, to match the diminutive vineyard which surrounds it.

Pomerol is a much-respected red wine appellation in the Bordeaux, known for its red wines based on Merlot grapes. The area has no formal classification system but has developed a very good reputation and now commands very high prices for the most well-known wines.
