Sella & Mosca, Cala Reale Vermentino di Sardinia 2024

Get to know: Sella & Mosca Cala Reale Vermentino di Sardegna 2024

A beautifully refined Italian white wine from the sun-drenched coastline of Sardinia.

Tasting Note

Sella & Mosca Cala Reale Vermentino di Sardegna 2024 is a crisp and elegant Vermentino that perfectly reflects its Mediterranean origins. Pale straw in colour with green highlights, it opens with bright aromas of tropical fruit, citrus peel, and wild herbs. On the palate, the wine is fresh and textured, offering layers of pineapple, peach, and lemon zest, balanced by savoury, saline notes that hint at the nearby sea. The finish is long, mineral, and mouthwateringly clean – a brilliant expression of Sardinia’s signature white grape.

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled sea bass with olive oil and lemon
  • Spaghetti alle vongole or other seafood pasta
  • Fresh goat’s cheese with herbs
Kate Says

"There’s so much to love here – bright citrus and juicy stone fruit leap out of the glass, carried by a fresh, sea-breeze minerality that drives it all the way through to a long, elegant finish. There’s already a lovely depth and complexity beneath that vibrant fruit – a real standout Vermentino."

Producer Info

Sella & Mosca is one of Sardinia’s most historic and respected wine estates. Founded in 1899 by two Piedmontese pioneers, the winery transformed wild land near Alghero into a thriving vineyard landscape that now spans over 500 hectares. Today, under the guidance of oenologist Giovanni Pinna, Sella & Mosca combines over a century of tradition with sustainable viticulture, crafting wines that reflect the island’s unique climate and character. Their proximity to the sea and ancient limestone soils imbue their Vermentino di Sardegna wines with a distinct saline freshness and mineral precision.

How it’s made:

  • Variety: 100% Vermentino
  • Hand-harvested grapes from coastal vineyards near Alghero
  • Gentle pressing and a cool pre-fermentation maceration at 10°C for 24 hours
  • Fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperatures to preserve aromatics
  • Brief ageing on fine lees for added texture and mineral complexity

Good to know:

  • Region: Sardinia, Italy
  • Style: White, still, medium-bodied
  • Closure: Diam
  • Vegan: Yes
