Cantina di Negrar, Corvina 2022/23

Get to know: Cantina di Negrar, Corvina

A fresh and fruity red from the heart of Valpolicella country.

Tasting Note

Corvina is one of the black grapes of Valpolicella, here given the chance to stand in the starring role. The fruit is from 25 year old vines which gives it a bit of extra concentration. There's aromas of ripe red and black cherry, a touch of vanilla and a little earthy spice. The aromas follow on to the soft textured palate leading to a finish is gently spicy with a little lingering sweetness and balancing acidity.

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled aubergine and mushroom skewers
  • Charcuterie or simple tomato pasta
  • Cheese: Taleggio or young Pecorino
Kate Says

"This is a nice, uncomplicated wine from a co-operative in Veneto. The fruit is bright and it's very easy to drink. The kind of wine I'd sip while relaxing after busy workday. I'd have it with pasta and grilled pork."

Producer Info

Cantina di Negrar is a historic cooperative based just outside Verona, right in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico zone. Founded in 1933, it now brings together over 200 local growers who farm some of the region’s best hillside sites. Their focus is on quality and authenticity, working with native grapes like Corvina to craft wines that reflect the land and tradition.

The 2023 vintage is made entirely from Corvina, harvested from vineyards in the rolling hills of Veneto. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel to retain the grape’s juicy character and gentle aromatics. The result is a fresh, fruit-driven red that shows Corvina’s easy-going side, without the richness or oak of Amarone-style wines.

How it’s made:

  • 100% Corvina from hillside vineyards in Veneto
  • Fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness
  • Made by a grower co-op with nearly a century of winemaking heritage

Good to know:

  • Region: Veneto, Italy
  • Vintage: 2023
  • Grape: Corvina
  • ABV:12.5%

Why we love it:

This is the kind of red that’s always handy to have around – bright, approachable and really versatile with food. It’s Valpolicella without the price tag, and a great introduction to one of Italy’s unsung hero grapes.
