Get to know: Michele Reverdito Barolo Bricco Cogni 2017
A refined and expressive Italian red wine from the historic Barolo DOCG in La Morra.
Tasting Note
Michele Reverdito Barolo Bricco Cogni 2017 is a beautifully structured Barolo that shows both depth and freshness. Garnet red with classic orange highlights, it opens with lifted aromas of liquorice, warm spice, dried cherry, and a touch of rose. On the palate, this Nebbiolo is rich, full, and finely layered, offering redcurrant, sweet spice, and a subtle savoury edge. The tannins are firm yet harmonious, giving the wine an elegant, long-lingering finish. It’s a confident, characterful Barolo – ideal for anyone who loves traditional Piedmont reds.
Top food pairings:
- Slow-braised beef or ox cheek
- Wild mushroom risotto with Parmigiano-Reggiano
- Game birds such as guinea fowl or pigeon
Kate Says
"This is Barolo with real heart. Bricco Cogni has that lovely mix of elegance and depth – the sort of wine you open when you want dinner to feel a bit special. It’s drinking beautifully now, but there’s no rush at all."
Producer Info
Azienda Agricola Michele Reverdito is a small, dedicated family winery in La Morra, run by Michele and his sister Sabina. Michele only began bottling wine in 2000 – before that, his father sold all their grapes locally, considering himself a farmer rather than a winemaker. Today, Reverdito is seen as one of the rising names in Barolo, crafting wines that highlight the character of each vineyard. Their approach is grounded in sustainable viticulture, from planting 27 varieties of grasses between the rows to enrich the soils, to maturing wines in large old oak for purity and finesse.
How it’s made:
- Varieties: 100% Nebbiolo
- Hand-harvested in small 20kg crates for gentle handling
- De-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel to retain clarity of flavour
- Extended maceration for structure and complexity
- Matured in large old oak casks to soften tannins without adding heavy oak flavours
