NAKU 2025 from Rioja Alavesa pulls the other way: bright red cherry and wild strawberry, soft tannins, a fine chalky thread from the limestone soils, and enough freshness that it's genuinely good with a slight chill - not something you can say about most Rioja.

"I love this pairing because the two wines pull in opposite directions. The TALO is all plush dark fruit and sweet spice, the kind of thing you want with something slow-cooked. NAKU is the opposite - bright, precise, lovely with a slight chill, and one of the wines we've been most excited about this year. San Marzano, TALO Malvasia Nera 2024, 13.5% ABV, Italy
A smooth, full-bodied red from Salento in Puglia. Deep ruby, with baked orange peel, vanilla, ripe Morello cherry, warm spice and a hint of thyme. Plush dark fruit on the palate, layered with sweet spice and gentle oak, and a rounded, velvety texture that carries through a long, soft finish.

NAKU 2025, 13% ABV, Spain
A bright, precise young Tempranillo from Rioja Alavesa, made in the fresh style of the region's traditional village wines. Red cherry and wild strawberry, an almost floral lift, and a fine chalky thread from the limestone soils underneath. Soft tannins, fresh finish, and well worth serving with a slight chill.
