Dom. Montgilet, Coteaux de l'Aubance "Les Trois Schistes" 2022

Get to know: Dom. Montgilet, Coteaux de l'Aubance "Les Trois Schistes" 2022

A beautifully balanced Loire Valley sweet wine from the Coteaux de l’Aubance, crafted from Chenin Blanc.

Tasting Note

Dom. Montgilet “Les Trois Schistes” is a rich yet refined Loire Valley sweet wine that brings together generous fruit and vibrant freshness. Golden in colour with aromas of baked peach, quince, lemon zest, and acacia honey. On the palate, this Chenin Blanc shows a smooth, medium-bodied texture with layers of marmalade, apricot, and citrus, balanced by a lively acidity that keeps everything fresh and lifted. It finishes silky and persistent, with a lovely interplay between sweetness and brightness. A classic expression of Coteaux de l’Aubance with real depth and ageing potential.

Top food pairings:

  • Foie gras or duck liver parfait
  • Apricot tart or apple tarte tatin
  • Blue cheese such as Roquefort or Stilton
Kate Says

"This is one of those wines that feels like a proper treat – rich, honeyed and comforting, but never heavy. Pop it open with a pudding or a bit of blue cheese and you’re sorted."

Producer Info

Domaine Montgilet is a family-run estate based in the Loire Valley, just south of Angers in the heart of the Coteaux de l’Aubance. The region benefits from morning mists rising from the Aubance river, encouraging noble rot (botrytis) on the Chenin Blanc grapes – key to producing some of the Loire’s finest sweet wines. The domaine focuses on expressing the unique schist soils of their vineyards, which lend both minerality and complexity to their wines.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 100% Chenin Blanc
  • Late harvest to encourage noble rot and concentrated sweetness
  • Careful selection of botrytised grapes from three schist-based vineyard parcels
  • Gentle pressing followed by fermentation at controlled temperatures
  • Aged to preserve freshness while developing texture and complexity

Good to know:

  • Region: Coteaux de l’Aubance, Loire Valley, France
  • Style: White, sweet, medium-bodied
  • Closure: Cork
  • Vegan: No
  • ABV: 12%
  • Vintage: 2022

Why we love it:

This Loire Valley sweet wine delivers everything you’d want from Chenin Blanc – luscious stone fruit, honeyed richness, and a refreshing citrus lift. It’s indulgent without being cloying, making it a brilliant partner for desserts, cheese, or a special occasion treat.
