Domaine Belleville, Chambolle-Musigny Les Drazeys Rouge 2019

Get to know: Domaine Belleville, Chambolle-Musigny Les Drazeys Rouge 2019

Tasting Note

There's a reason Chambolle-Musigny has earned its reputation as the most graceful, seductive commune in Burgundy — and this bottle from Domaine Belleville captures exactly why we fall for these wines time and again.

Pour a glass and you're immediately greeted by a rush of red fruits — think sun-warmed raspberries tumbling into a bowl, ripe strawberries, and that intriguing earthy undertone that Burgundy lovers live for. There's something almost forest-like lurking beneath the fruit: damp leaves, a whisper of mushroom, the scent of a woodland walk after light rain. It's complex without being showy.

On the palate, this is pure silk. The tannins are soft and plush, cradling all that juicy fruit rather than fighting against it. What strikes us most is the balance here — nothing juts out or demands attention. Everything works in harmony, gliding towards a finish that's elegant and lingering. You'll find yourself reaching for another sip before you've quite finished contemplating the last one.

Domaine Belleville has been crafting wines from their base in Rully since the early 1900s, building a quiet reputation for producing honest, terroir-driven Burgundy without the fanfare (or eye-watering prices) of some neighbours. Their approach is traditional and unhurried, letting the vineyards speak. Les Drazeys sits in the heart of Chambolle-Musigny, and you can taste the village's signature finesse in every glass.

This is a wine that's drinking beautifully right now — no need to squirrel it away in the cellar unless you want to. That said, if you're the patient type, another five years will reward you with even more complexity.

Food pairing:

This Chambolle-Musigny loves the company of roast duck breast with cherry jus, a classic coq au vin, or something as simple as grilled lamb cutlets with herbs. For vegetarians, try it alongside a wild mushroom risotto or aged Comté cheese — the earthy notes will sing.

Kate Says

"This is proper Burgundy at a price that won't require a second mortgage. Elegant, expressive, and genuinely lovely to drink — exactly the kind of wine we opened Reserve to share with you."
