Get to know: Jordan Russian River Chardonnay 2018

Tasting Note

A highly anticipated vintage since the beginning of the growing season, the 2018 is one of the most delicious Chardonnays our Russian River Valley vineyards have ever produced, defined by its crispness, vibrancy and freshness. Pretty aromas of honeysuckle, lemon blossom and Fuji apple spring from the glass. The palate boasts bright, lively layers of citrus with a hint of oak and creaminess from careful barrel aging and batonnage. Flavors of kumquat, lemon and Fuji apple linger in the juicy, mouthwatering finish.

Seasonal dishes that pair perfectly include prawns, fishcakes and red snapper as well as goats cheese and alpine cheeses.

Kate Says

"Seriously good Chardonnay from a world class winery. This is intense upfront with a precise, focused finish. If you like the white wines of Burgundy like Puligny-Montrachet, this is for you. I'd enjoy it with a fish pie."

Producer Info

At Jordan, they believe that winemaking is not a recipe. Achieving both harmony and continuity in winemaking style requires a relentless desire to find new ways to perfect our craft. It also demands a commitment to quality without compromise. Although they've focused on making just one white wine and one red wine since the 1970s, they believe every vintage should be better than the last, and they spare no expense in that pursuit.

They choose to grow their chardonnay grapes in Russian River Valley in western Sonoma County, where the cool climate, coastal fog and gravelly soils along the river allow them to emulate the crisp stone fruit, bright acidity and lingering minerality found in their inspiration wines—the great white wines of Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune region in France.

This wine spent over 5 months in new french oak and 46% of the wine was fermented in stainless steel. 12% of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation.

Jordan is a certified sustainable vineyard and winery involved in many green business programs. Roughly 75 percent of their electricity comes from the California sun—harnessed by their hillside solar arrays—and the balance from renewable resources through the Sonoma Clean Power program. Jordan’s electrical use has been carbon neutral since 2014.
