A bold but balanced claret from a rising star of the Left Bank, in a party-sized magnum.
Rich, ripe and wonderfully structured, the Château Saransot-Dupré 2020 shows why Listrac-Médoc deserves more love. On the nose, there’s a lovely blend of blackberries, cassis, graphite, and spice, with a touch of tobacco and floral lift. The palate is firm and layered – full of dark fruit, polished tannins, and a savoury twist on the finish. It’s a claret that overdelivers.

Serving tip: Decant for an hour before drinking – especially from magnum – to let it open up fully.
“I love this wine because it’s got the bones of a proper Médoc – dark fruit, minerality, structure – but with a friendliness that makes it a real crowd-pleaser. And in magnum? It’s a cracking bottle for a roast dinner or a special get-together.”
Château Saransot-Dupré has quietly built a reputation as one of the standout estates in Listrac-Médoc, the highest and coolest part of the Left Bank. Owned by the Bérard family, who’ve farmed here since the 18th century, it’s a rare Médoc property that also grows Malbec, adding an extra dimension to the classic Bordeaux blend.
The 2020 vintage was warm and generous, producing wines with great depth and ripe tannins. Saransot-Dupré’s vineyards, set on gravel and clay-limestone soils, helped preserve freshness and balance.
