Tabali, Pedregoso Gran Reserva Viognier 2023

Get to know: Tabali, Pedregoso Gran Reserva Viognier

Crisp, aromatic and elegant—this Viognier is a bright and expressive white from Chile’s cool Limarí Valley.

Tasting Note

This Viognier opens with vivid aromas of citrus, orange peel, dried apricot, white peach and a hint of candied fruit. On the palate, floral and honeyed notes blend seamlessly with juicy pear and peach flavours, all lifted by a chalky minerality typical of Limarí. Bright, clean and silky, it finishes with great purity and texture.

Top food pairings:

  • Steamed langoustines or sea bass with ginger and herbs
  • Thai green curry or lemongrass chicken
  • Cheese: creamy burrata or ricotta
Kate Says

"Viognier can be an exciting and exotic grape and a good alternative for fans of tropical unoaked Chardonnay. If you've never tried it, this lovely Chilean example is a great place to start."

Producer Info

Tabalí is a pioneering winery in Chile’s Limarí Valley, founded in 2002 and renowned for producing vibrant, terroir-driven wines. Their vineyards stretch from the Andes down close to the Pacific, and the coastal fog (‘camanchaca’) brings welcome coolness, making Limarí one of Chile’s coolest growing regions.

The Pedregoso Gran Reserva Viognier comes from the Espinal estate and nearby vineyards planted on calcareous, alluvial soils. Whole-bunch pressing preserves acidity and freshness, and the juice is cold-decanted before gentle fermentation with selected yeasts. The wine sees no oak just stainless steel purity - highlighting fruit clarity and the region’s minerality. Fermentation and ageing happen in steel until bottling.

How it’s made:

  • 100% Viognier grown on alluvial, limestone-rich soils in Limarí Valley
  • Whole-bunch pressed and cold-decanted for clarity and freshness
  • Fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures (below 18 °C)
  • Stays in stainless steel post-fermentation until bottling - no oak
  • Produced vegan-friendly and with minimal intervention
