Langmann, Schilcher Klassik Rose 2023

Get to know: Langmann, Schilcher Klassik Rose 2023

Tasting Note

A proper zinger of a rosé. This Schilcher Klassik from Weingut Langmann is made from the native Blauer Wildbacher grape – a bit of a local legend in Austria’s Weststeiermark region.

Expect punchy red berry aromas – cranberry, sour cherry and wild strawberry – with a cheeky herbal edge (think nettles or a whiff of green pepper). On the palate, it’s super dry and high in acidity, but juicy too – crisp, clean and absolutely brimming with tart fruit and stony minerality.

It’s not your usual soft rosé – this one’s got bite, energy and loads of freshness. Perfect for when you want something crisp, not cloying.

Try this with fried chicken (AustrianBackhendl if you’re going authentic), grilled courgette & halloumi skewers or tomato & basil salads.

Kate Says

"This is a zippy, dry, dark rose... or a chillable light red from the foot of the Koralpe mountains in the Austrian Alps. Highly aromatic with notes of currant and fully ripe strawberries, while the palate is lively and spirited with racy minerality."

Producer Info

The Langmann family have been making wine in Weststeiermark since 1746, and they know their way around a steep hillside. Their vineyards sit on dramatic slopes with slate and marl soils, which give the wine its brilliant minerality.

They specialise in Schilcher, a uniquely Austrian style of rosé made from Blauer Wildbacher. It’s always vibrant, bone dry and tart – a real regional gem. This bottling is their Klassik style: fermented in stainless steel for ultimate freshness, and showing off everything that’s great about this grape and place.
