This is a fresh, young, approachable style of Barbera, fermented and stored in concrete vats to retain the purity of fruit. Full of juicy red berries, crunchy acidity and silky smooth tannins this is a great crowd pleasing red wine.
Alto Piemonte sits right up in Italy's North West corner, around 100km north of Barolo and is often seen as the poorer cousin. However it's seen a renaissance in recent years and with vineyards and the wines being a more approachable price the wines here are often great value. Siblings Marina and Francis represent the fifth generation of winemakers at the Vallana estate and hold up the classical style of the region, creating wines which are full of life, minerality and acidity.
This is a really versatile red to have with food, spaghetti and meatballs would be a classic or try it with roast pork dishes.
