Quinta do Vallado Tinto 2023

Get to know: Quinta do Vallado 'Vallado' Tinto

A concentrated and beautifully structured Portuguese red wine from the iconic Douro Valley.

Tasting Note

Quinta do Vallado ‘Vallado’ Tinto is a bold, elegant red blend that brings together ripe Douro fruit with a lovely floral lift. Deep ruby in colour with aromas of mature red berries, violet, wild herbs and a gentle earthy note. On the palate, the Touriga Nacional-led blend feels smooth and rounded, packed with juicy red fruit, subtle spice and a touch of herbaceous freshness. It finishes long and lingering with supple tannins and a real sense of place. A superb example of a Douro red that balances power with polish.

Top food pairings:

  • Portuguese beef espetadas or grilled steak
  • Roast lamb with rosemary
  • Mushroom and bean stew
Kate Says

"I love the mix of violets and soft, elegant fruits on the nose here. It’s supple, beautifully balanced and just feels so textbook Douro - really very good."

Producer Info

Quinta do Vallado is one of the Douro Valley’s oldest and most celebrated estates, founded in 1716 and once owned by the legendary Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira. Still in the hands of her descendants, today’s team has transformed the estate into a renowned producer of both Port and standout Douro wines. With vineyards ranging from old, low-yielding plantings to younger single-varietal plots, they draw on the schist soils and dramatic slopes of the region to craft wines of purity, structure and classic Portuguese character.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, field blend reds, Sousão and Tinta Barroca
  • Grapes harvested at optimal ripeness during a long, warm vintage
  • Fermentation in large stainless-steel tanks for one week at 23–25°C
  • 90% aged for eight months in stainless steel to retain freshness
  • 10% matured in used French oak for 16 months for subtle structure

Good to know:
