Get to know: Le Soula, Rouge 2014

Tasting note

Le Soula's flagship red, this is a really elegant and refined wine. It's a blend of Carignan, Syrah and Grenache Noir, with some of the vines aged close to 70 years.  A very versatile red with food, it's medium bodied with an almost Burgundian quality.

Kate Says

"Le Soula produce really fresh and elegant wines. It's a brilliant winery too, completely organic and a haven for flora and fauna. I love the fact that wild boar are said to emerge from the forests to turn over the soils in search of grubs and herbs, which are to be found in abundance here."

Producer Info

Le Soula wines are made from old vines at Fenouilledes, located at the foot of the Pyrenees mountains. At 650 metres above sea level, these vines are some of the highest in France. Le Soula's founding group, Gerard Gauby (one of the Roussillon's most respected vignerons), Mark Walford and Roy Richards were of the belief that the old vines would benefit from a cooler climate and saw great potential to produce wines of really high quality, thanks to the granite soils and variable climate of hot southern sun and cooler mountain wind and rains. Established in 2001, the winery quickly became renowned for producing really pure and precise wines.
