Las Estelas, Leticia Cabernet Cabernet 2021

Get to know: Las Estelas, Leticia Cabernet Cabernet

Tasting Note

Leticia, meaning Joy in Latin, is the name of one of winemaker Estela Perinetti’s daughters; inspired by her frank and genuine laugh and refreshing gaze. It's a blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon from their Finca Mangato vineyard 12,000 meters above sea level. The effect is harmonious throughout from notes of hibiscus flowers and spice on the nose through to plump cassis and juicy redcurrant in the mouth. A superbly crafted blend representing fantastic value for money.

Try this with roast beef or chicken shwarma.

In the press

"...gloriously floral-fragrant and succulent blackcurrant-juicy blend of cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon, from high up in the Andes in Tupungato, Mendoza."

David Williams - The Guardian, 20 February 2024

Kate Says

"It is a pleasure to present the wines of Estela Perinetti and what a wine! This blend of two Cabernet grapes is a rich and expressive delight. Intense yet carried by a wonderful texture. I'd love this with a beef tenderloin."

Producer Info

Las Estelas is the project of Estela Perinetti. Estela was one of the first of South America’s rapidly growing family of women winemakers. She spent more than two decades heading up some of Catena’s most high-profile winery projects and she has been very much in demand as one of Mendoza’s leading consultants since.

Estela says this…  “We want to pay tribute to all the women in the family and all those who work alongside us. The presence of women has had a fundamental role in Las Estelas Wines… they work our lands with passion and commitment… Argentina is not just one wine, Malbec is not just a type of wine, and we are not just Malbec.”

This wine uses fruit from Finca Mangato vines in El Paral, Tupungato at 1,200 metres above sea level, planted on shallow sandy-loam soils, this delicious blend bears testament to Estela’s eye for detail and insistence on absolute precision. A blend of 70% Cabernet Franc with 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Intriguingly, 70% of the Cab Sauv parcel is co-fermented with the Cab Franc, and the remaining 30% of Cab Sauv is aged for 9 months in second use French oak. Still with us? There is a very strong sense here that nothing is left to chance and the results are fabulous.
