Kloovenburg, Grenache Noir 2021

Get to know: Kloovenburg, Grenache Noir

Tasting Note

From a young single vineyard hillside planting of dense bush vines this is a juicy, finely structured Grenache that is supremely aromatic. There's freshly crushed cherries, strawberry, pomegranate and dried herbs. Very bright and inviting on the palate with more strawberry and cranberry fruit with a twist of orange zest that follows through to a super positive crunchy, moreish finish.

This wine is a winner with lamb cutlets and mash.

Kate Says

This is a lovely light and elegant style of Grenache that has lots of lovely strawberry and cherry fruit, but it's quite savoury too, giving it a nice complexity. The Du Toit family make very well crafted wines and they're always a treat to enjoy. I'd have this with a lamb loin and rosemary potatoes.

Producer Info

The Kloovenburg farm has been a family run business since 1956 but only began winemaking in 1997. Pieter du Toit now runs the winery with his wife and four sons. The du Toits set a high standards for their wines and have the passion and energy to achieve them and maintain a proud family tradition for  decades to come.

For this wine, all grapes are handpicked during the early morning hours and then cooled overnight in a temperature-controlled room at 5 °C. After fermentation is completed, the wine is left on the skins for another seven days and then pressed to old oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation is completed in the barrel. The wine is then racked from the lees and given a low dose of sulphur. The wine spends a total of 10 months in the barrel before it is bottled, unfined and unfiltered.
