Riesling grown on clay slate soils, fermented in Mosel fuder and in stainless steel tanks and left to mature for up to one year on the lees without any added sulphur. A slightly more modern, riper, and weightier style of Riesling more for everyday drinking. Great concentration of flavours as a result of the ripeness, lifted by a tiny bit of residual sugar while the acidity keeps it feeling dry. Complex with intense minerality. Fresh citrus aromas and nuances of stone fruits and nuts. Lively and playful yet elegant, with hints of smoke and salt on the finish.

The name Fio means ‘thread’ in Portuguese. The estate is a joint venture connecting two families: the Kettern family, who have been making wine in the Mosel for several hundred years, and the Niepoort family, led by famed Portuguese winemaker, Dirk Niepoort. No herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers are used. Sheep graze in the vineyards to control weeds and a hands-off approach is taken.
