Get to know: Domaine des Tourelles, Rose

Tasting Note

This is a wonderful Lebanese Rose from the talented team at Domaine des Tourelles. Made using a blend of Cinsault, Tempranillo and Syrah grapes, this has a fuller-body than a typical Provence style wine, with flavours of ripe summer fruits with a zesty spicy finish. There's just has a bit more oomph, ripeness and spice alongside plenty of strawberry and red cherry flavour. A charming and delicious wine.

Try this with spicy antipasti, Tabbouleh, Baba Ghanoush with olive oil, lemon & garlic, grilled lamb.

Kate Says

"We love Domaine des Tourelles wines. They're a producer with a long history and a low intervention approach to winemaking. It results in characterful wines like this delicious rosé. I'd enjoy this with a Middle Eastern mezze."

Producer Info

Founded in 1868 by a French adventurer named François-Eugène Brun Domaine Des Tourelles was among the first wineries to produce wines and spirits using the local grapes in the Bekaa Valley. The Brun family ran it until 2003 when the last descendent passed away and the winery faced closure until two local families bought the property with the aim of continuing the tradition of winemaking.

They've brought a young and dynamic energy to the winery and have introduced the use of indigenous natural yeasts, no fining or filtering, and only very small amounts of sulphur. Their fruit is from 40 hectares of ancient, organically cultivated and dry-farmed vineyards which are among the oldest in the valley and they've become one of the finest boutique wineries in the Middle East.

Vineyards for this wines are located in the Western Bekaa, and grapes are gown on 15-20 year old vines on sandy limestone soil. The grapes are manually harvested and fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks for 10 days. The syrah undergoes a short maceration and bleeding (a rosé saignée), while the Cinsault and Tempranillo are direct pressed. No malolactic fermentation takes place. After blending the wine undergoes a gentle clarification.
