Producer Info
Domaine de la Janasse is one of the Rhône Valley’s most respected family estates, renowned for crafting expressive, terroir-driven wines from their mosaic of more than sixty plots across Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Now run by siblings Christophe and Isabelle Sabon, the domaine farms organically, focusing on soil health, biodiversity and precision in both vineyard and cellar. Their cooler, sandy parcels – including the famed Chapouin and La Crau sectors – are where Grenache achieves exceptional finesse, giving Cuvée Chaupin its hallmark purity and aromatic lift.
How it’s made:
- Varieties: 100% Grenache from vines planted as early as 1912
- Hand-harvested with strict sorting in the vineyard for optimum ripeness
- 80% destemmed; long 26-day maceration with gentle daily punching-down
- Fermented in temperature-controlled vats to preserve fruit intensity
- Aged 12 months: two-thirds in large foudres and one-third in 600L demi-muids
