Conceito Bastardo 2020

This is a wine that leaps out at you due to its striking label image and name. Bastardo is the name of the grape variety (a synonym for the lesser known grape Trousseau found in Jura, France. Though the Douro version is quite different.) The wine is also quite distinctive. A pale colour in the glass, this is really quite lovely with a herbaceous, sweet cherry fruit on the nose. It is pure and elegant on the palate with more of that cherry fruit and savoury, leafy herb character. It finishes dry, with some refreshing acidity and a little food friendly structure.

Very versatile at the table, it pairs perfectly with Asian food and tomato based dishes.

Historically, Bastardo was planted for it's high sugar and alcohol contribution to port wines. With changing times and changing tastes many vineyards were grubbed-up. Luckily Rita inherited 5 hectares of Bastardo, planted by her grandfather 50 years ago in the Douro highlands.

This wine is trodden in lagares with very low sulphur additions.
