Bedoba, Kakheti Orange 2023

Get to know: Bedoba, Kakheti Orange 2022

A striking orange wine from the heart of Georgia’s Kakheti region.

Tasting Note

Made using ancient winemaking techniques and native varieties Rkatsiteli and Kisi. Bedoba means "Day of Luck" - and this wine is a lucky find indeed, full of texture, tradition and soul. Bright amber in colour, this wine opens with aromas of dried apricot, orange peel and wild herbs. The palate is textured and complex, with layers of honeyed fruit, gentle tannins and a savoury, herbal depth. Intriguing and expressive - a brilliant introduction to Georgian amber wines.

Top food pairings:

  • Roast aubergine with pomegranate and tahini
  • Spiced chicken tagine with apricots
  • Hard cheeses like Manchego or aged Gouda
Kate Says

"This is one for the adventurous. It’s rich and textured with a unique flavour profile that really rewards slow sipping and food pairing. If you’ve never tried a qvevri wine before - start here."

Producer Info

Bedoba was founded to celebrate Georgia’s ancient winemaking heritage through a modern lens. Winemakers Nugzar Ksovreli and Swiss oenologist Thierry Fontannaz take inspiration from the Konchosvilli family, whose wine cellars date back to 1737. The label honours Bishop Petre Konchoshvili, a 19th-century spiritual and political figure, and the long-standing ties between the family and the Georgian Orthodox Church - 'koncho' means cross.

How it’s made:

  • 70% Rkatsiteli and 30% Kisi, grown on blue slate and limestone soils in Kakheti
  • Rkatsiteli fermented on skins in traditional qvevri (clay amphorae) using wild yeasts, with malolactic fermentation and ageing until March
  • 10% aged in new oak for added complexity
  • Kisi destemmed and fermented separately in stainless steel at 16°C to retain freshness
  • No fining; minimal filtration to maintain authenticity
