A refined and cellar-worthy Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from the historic hills of Tuscany.
Capannelle ‘Condotti’ Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2020 is an elegant red that showcases the depth and purity of 100% Sangiovese. Brilliant ruby in colour with garnet reflections, it opens with aromas of ripe red cherry, dried violets, wild herbs and a touch of sweet spice from Slavonian oak. On the palate, this Tuscan Sangiovese is beautifully structured yet poised, offering flavours of sour cherry, plum, tobacco and a savoury hint of leather. Fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity give it classic Chianti Classico definition, leading to a long, harmonious finish with notes of spice and dried red fruit. A serious Italian red wine with both power and finesse, built to evolve gracefully in bottle.
Top food pairings:
"This is one for when you want to impress – think candlelight, a proper ragù simmering away, and good company around the table. It’s classic Tuscany in a glass, with depth, polish and that savoury Sangiovese edge I adore."
Capannelle was founded in 1974 when Raffaele Rossetti restored a 16th-century villa in Gaiole in Chianti, right in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. Careful vineyard management and a forward-thinking approach in the cellar quickly earned the estate international acclaim. Today, under the ownership of James B. Sherwood and the guidance of long-standing winemaker Simone Monciatti, Capannelle remains a benchmark producer in Tuscany, combining tradition with meticulous modern winemaking.
This Chianti Classico Gran Selezione captures the very best of Sangiovese grown in Tuscany – vibrant cherry fruit, savoury complexity and beautifully judged oak. A superb Italian red wine for special occasions, it’s equally at home with a hearty Sunday roast or a generous spread of aged cheeses.
