Kate Says
"A fresh crunchy, fruit forward style of wine. A cute story about this one - apparently Gamay was outlawed by Philip the Bold in 1395, but some rebellious vigernons secretly planted some among the Pinot Noir vines to keep it alive. Thank goodness!"
Producer Info
For centuries maligned, mistreated and misunderstood, Gamay was outlawed by Philip the Bold in 1395. Some vignerons rebelled, hiding forbidden Gamay vines amongst noble Pinot Noir. In their honour the makers of this wine released this deliberately disruptive Gamay, bottled without appellation and without rules!
This wine is made by a co-operative of growers in the hills just outside Lyon, where Gamay thrives in granite-rich soils. Gamay loves the granite/siliceous soils of the vineyards in the hills to the north west of Lyon in eastern France.
How it’s made:
- Carbonic maceration for that signature fruitiness and lift
- Vinified in stainless steel to keep things crisp and unoaked
- Minimal intervention and vegan-friendly throughout
The result is a super fresh, juicy style that’s all about easy-drinking pleasure with a bit of French attitude.
