What is orange wine?
Orange wine is made by fermenting white grapes with their skins and seeds – just like red wine. The result? A white wine with body, texture, and bold flavour. Think stone fruits, spice, a touch of funk, and tannins that make it incredibly food-friendly.

Cortese Nostru Orange-Utan, 12%, Italy, Vegan, Organic

Cortese, produce wine in the most traditional and natural way to reflect the true character of the estate’s terroir and its grape varieties. Taking tradition as their inspiration, they started to employ ancient wine-making techniques such as fermentation in terracotta. The resulting wines reflect the combination of modern technology and traditional techniques, with every nuance of the terroir showing through.

The wines are fermented on the skins at a controlled temperature of between 17 and 19 °C. The Inzolia is macerated for 2-3 weeks, Zibibbo for 6 weeks with daily, gentle punching down during the 7-10 days of fermentation. Once the fermentation if finished the wines are then blended together and left on fine lees for about 3 months before bottling.

Lorenzetti & Zehender, Vincenzo Bianco, 12% Italy, Vegan, Organic

Michele Lorenzetti and Luigi Zehender, both viticulturists, are two friends who joined forces to produce wines with great respect for nature, using biodynamic practices throughout the wine-making process.Vincenzo Blanco is a great introduction to light skin-contact wines. The latest vintage of this wine comes with a brand-new look and a paler blend of Falanghina and Trebbiano grapes. Vibrant with apple, quince and crunchy yellow plums. Time spent on skins offers just enough tannin to keep things interesting - not dissimilar to iced tea - backed up by plenty of clean, refreshing minerality on the finish.

If you're not yet into natural wine, this is the kind of bottle that’ll win you over – complex, expressive and far too easy to drink.

Maremosso Bianco Catarratto IGP, 13.5% Italy, Vegan, Organic

This Catarratto produced by the Vesco family on Siciliy is perfect for anyone who is looking to start their journey into orange wines. Since taking over the 100 hectare estate the philosophy of the winery has focused on organic farming, hand harvesting and wild yeast fermentation. They harvest the grapes at night when they're cooler to retain as much fresh fruit as possible before fermenting on the skins for a couple of weeks. During this time the temperature is kept cooler, meaning a gentle extraction of tannins and colour and ensures the fruit character of the wine isn't blown away by the tannins.

The result is a fantastic, rich, pithy wine full of green apple and quince fruit flowing into ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon with a savoury, herbaceous finish full of dried oregano and lightly toasted almonds. All this complexity makes for some great food pairing options, especially as we move into autumn and root vegetables really come into their own, a root veg tarte tatin full of carrots, parsnips and sweet potato with some thyme thrown in would work a treat with the rich, savoury character of the wine.

Orange wine trio FAQs
Is orange wine the same as natural wine?
Not exactly – orange wine refers to the method (skin-contact whites), while natural wine is about how it's made (minimal intervention, no additives). Many orange wines are natural, though.

How long does orange wine last once opened?
Usually 3–5 days in the fridge with a stopper. Some even get better after a day or two open.

Does orange wine taste like oranges?
Nope! The name comes from the colour, not the flavour – although you might pick up notes of citrus peel depending on the grape.
