Clos del Rey, La Noia Rouge 2023

Get to know: Clos del Rey La Noïa Rouge

A vibrant French red wine from the limestone-rich Languedoc-Roussillon, showcasing pure, juicy Grenache character with fresh charm.

Tasting Note

Clos del Rey La Noïa Rouge is a lively 100% Grenache Languedoc-Roussillon red that pays tribute to Catalan women. Ruby red in colour, it opens with aromas of ripe cherry, strawberry, blackberry, violet and herbs, delicate violet florals, and a subtle herb and walnut note. Medium-bodied on the palate, it offers supple, smooth fruit, a fresh, silky texture, and a clean, lingering finish. This is a really approachable red, that's very well made wine and feels lighter than the ABV would suggest.

Top food pairings:

  • Grilled lamb with rosemary and garlic
  • Charcuterie boards with cured meats and soft cheeses
  • Mushroom risotto or roasted vegetable dishes
Kate Says

"La Noïa is the kind of wine you reach for when you want something effortlessly charming and full of personality. We love it. Perfect with simple, hearty dishes."

Producer Info

On a recent trip to the Languedoc, we spent time with a small group of wonderful winemakers dedicated to making wines that truly reflect their sense of place. We completely fell in love with them, and one of our favourites is Clos del Rey.

Clos del Rey is tucked away in the heart of Maury in the Roussillon. While the region is known for its naturally sweet wines, Clos del Rey has focused on dry wines with extraordinary results. Established in 2001, the estate is run by Jacques Montagné and his son Julien. Their vineyard sites lie at 300 metres altitude, with vines averaging 40 years old and one rare hectare of Carignan over a century old. From the moment we met Julien, it was clear he is a winemaker through and through.

The reds wines are all based on Grenache, Nothing unnatural interferes with the vines, giving the wines a rare vibrancy and liveliness. This is what we call the wine magic: wines that tell the story of grape, land, family heritage, and the spirit of the Languedoc-Roussillon region – a grassroots entrepreneurial approach with freedom to express through wine. These wines are positively alive and kicking.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 100% Grenache Noir
  • Hand-harvested from mature vines to capture concentrated, ripe fruit
  • Gentle maceration for colour and aromatic lift
  • Fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and varietal purity
  • Brief maturation with no heavy oak to maintain  and freshness

Good to know:

  • Region: Languedoc-Roussillon, France
  • Style: Red, still, medium-bodied
  • Closure: Cork
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 14.5%
  • Vintage: 2023

Why we love it:

This French red wine from Languedoc-Roussillon is bursting with juicy red berry flavours, subtle florals, and a fresh, balanced structure. Its approachable Grenache style makes it versatile at the table, brilliant with casual meals and autumnal dishes.
