Biscardo Neropasso 2023

Get to know: Mabis, Biscardo Neropasso 2023

A rich and velvety Italian red wine from Veneto.

Tasting Note

Made by the Biscardo family in Soave, where they've been making wine for over 150 years. Neropasso uses the traditional Appassimento method - selected grapes are partially dried in airy fruttaio drying rooms before vinification, which concentrates the fruit and gives the finished wine its trademark plush texture. Deep ruby red in the glass with enticing aromas of cherry, black cherry, plum compote and warm spice. The palate is fine and velvety: layers of ripe red and black fruit, gentle spice, and a long finish framed by soft, rounded tannins.

Top food pairings:

  • Tagliatelle with rich ragù
  • Roast lamb or pork loin
  • Fresh or aged cheeses such as Asiago or Parmigiano
Kate Says

"A wine that's easy to love – and there's been a lot of love for Appassimento. Once people try the expressive sweet fruit, they can't wait to tell someone. It feels like a word-of-mouth success, and it's quickly become a bestseller."

Producer Info

Mabis – Biscardo is led today by brothers Maurizio and Martino, continuing more than 150 years of winemaking heritage from their base in Soave. The family has built a reputation for irresistible drinkability, aromatic purity and exceptional value across both Veneto and Puglian ranges. Maurizio's long career as a consultant winemaker, working with estates across Italy, sits behind the style — generous fruit, considered structure, nothing fussy.

How it’s made:

  • Varieties: 40% Corvinone, 30% Corvina, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Hand-harvested grapes selected for perfect ripeness and healthy bunches
  • Partial Appassimento process in airy fruttaio rooms for optimal grape drying
  • Fermentation followed by partial ageing – 40% of the wine spends 6 months in tonneaux
  • Soils: varied, including calcareous-rich red and brown earth, loam rocks, basalt, and limestone

Good to know:

  • Region: Veneto, Italy
  • Style: Red, still, medium- to full-bodied
  • Closure: Natural cork
  • Vegan: Yes
  • ABV: 13.5%
  • Vintage: 2023
  • Awards: Berliner Wine Trophy 2024 – Gold

Why we love it:

If you've ever fallen for a proper Amarone but flinched at the price, this is the bottle that fills the gap. Appassimento drying gives you that same plush, fruit-concentrated character - cherry, plum, warm spice, that signature velvet texture - at a price you can put on a Tuesday table. Gold medal at the 2024 Berliner Wine Trophy is the formal endorsement. The word-of-mouth from our customers is the real one.
