A refined red from the slopes of Mount Etna – bright, elegant and full of volcanic character. Like Pinot Noir with a Sicilian soul.
This beautiful Italian red comes from the volcanic soils of Etna, where the Nerello Mascalese grape thrives at altitude. It’s light in colour but full of flavour – think wild strawberries, sour cherry and dried herbs, with a savoury edge and a touch of smoke.
The tannins are fine and grippy, the acidity is fresh, and the finish is long and mineral. It’s the kind of wine that keeps revealing new layers with every sip – delicate but complex.
Top food pairings:
A brilliant food wine – especially with earthy, savoury dishes or anything with a touch of char.
“Nerello Mascalese is one of those grapes I always get excited about. This one is super elegant – light in body but full of character. It’s like if Pinot Noir had a bit more grit and warmth. Gorgeous stuff.”
Masseria Setteporte is a family-run organic estate perched on the south-western slopes of Mount Etna, in Sicily’s Etna Rosso DOC. The vineyards sit at 650 metres above sea level, where cool mountain air and volcanic soils help produce wines with freshness, minerality and finesse.
How it’s made:
The result is a beautifully balanced Etna red wine with lifted fruit, savoury complexity and real elegance – a fantastic expression of Nerello Mascalese and one of Sicily’s most exciting wine regions.
This is Etna wine at its best – elegant, expressive and full of place. If you love Pinot Noir or lighter styles of red with complexity and freshness, this Sicilian gem is well worth discovering.
