Zesty and stylish, the Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is packed with juicy lemon and ripe melon flavours, lifted by orange blossom and hints of wild herbs. It's a bright, textured white with a flourish of wildflowers and that classic Marlborough zing, but with a bit more structure and polish than most. A proper standout. Food pairings:
Greywacke is a true expression of winemaker Kevin Judd's simple and hands-on approach to winemaking. There always something unique about the flavour and balance in his wines that make them stand out from the crowd. This vintage is a stunner. I'd enjoy it with fish goujons and a mango salad.
Greywacke (pronounced Greywacky) is the personal label of legendary winemaker Kevin Judd - formerly of Cloudy Bay- who’s spent decades shaping how the world sees New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The name comes from the drab grey bedrock found all over New Zealand, and the wines are anything but. Set in the Omaka Valley in Marlborough, the Judd family’s Greywacke estate keeps things simple and hands-on, focusing on sustainable viticulture and low-intervention winemaking. The grapes for this 2024 vintage were picked in the cool of night, then gently pressed and cold-fermented in stainless steel to capture maximum flavour. A few months ageing on lees adds texture and a lovely savoury complexity. Fruit comes from some of the best vineyard sites in Marlborough, with a mix of stony riverbed soils and rich clay loams. That combination of sites adds layers to the wine - freshness from the plains, structure and depth from the valleys. It's all about balance, precision, and proper varietal character. And because it’s crafted with sustainability in mind, this is also a vegan Sauvignon Blanc you can feel good about sipping.
