A bold yet easy-drinking blend that brings together the best of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Juicy blueberry, blackberries, cassis, and a touch of ripe plum lead the way, with a hint of fresh herbs and subtle spice in the background. There’s a lovely smoothness here, thanks to Merlot’s soft tannins, but just enough structure from the Cab and freshness from the coastal influence to keep things interesting. A proper crowd-pleaser with enough depth to keep you coming back for another glass.
Try this with spaghetti and meatballs, caramelised roast veg or soft and mature cheeses.
"This is the sort of wine I’d take to a friend's for dinner – easy-going, full of flavour, and guaranteed to be a hit. It’s got that lovely rich fruit you want in a red, but with a bit of freshness too, so it never feels too heavy. Stick it with a steak, a good lasagne, or even just a wedge of mature cheddar, and you’re sorted."
The Winery of Good Hope is all about making quality South African wine without any pretension. Based in the stunning coastal region of Stellenbosch, they focus on wines that are fresh, expressive, and great value. Sustainability is a big deal for them – they take care of the land, the people, and the planet, ensuring every bottle is made with good intentions as well as great winemaking.
The grapes were cold soaked and a slight carbonic maceration employed for a lift in the fruit expression of the eventual wine. Cool fermentation temperatures and soft, daily pump-overs were used throughout to ensure an unhurried extraction of tannin from the skins. The wine was drawn off the skins straight thereafter in order to avoid over extraction.
Gentle pressing yielded only the best, softly textured wine and this was transferred to tank for malolactic fermentation. A portion of the wine was matured in French oak barrels for a period of 10 months before blending and bottling. The use of SO2 was limited to an absolute minimum throughout so as to allow the wine to follow its own course and express its origin most clearly.
