Get to know: Strange Kompanjie, Methode Ancestrale Pet Nat Rose 2024

Tasting Note

This pale coral pink Pet Nat Rosé is everything we love about natural fizz — fresh, softly sparkling, and bursting with red berry and citrus charm. Expect juicy strawberry, pink grapefruit and a touch of orange zest, rounded off with a yeasty, bready note from the lees. It’s dry, crisp and alive with energy thanks to a lively acidity and gentle spritz.

Why We Love It

  • Unfiltered Methode Ancestrale sparkling rosé wine with a natural fizz

  • South African Pet Nat made from dry-farmed Grenache

  • Vegan and sustainable, bottled with no added nonsense

  • Super refreshing and incredibly food-friendly

Best served chilled at a picnic, with mates round the BBQ, or to kick off a weekend brunch.

Food Pairing Ideas:

  • Grilled aubergine skewers with harissa yoghurt
  • Smoked salmon or cured meats like prosciutto
  • Mild goat’s cheese or soft-rind brie
Kate Says

"If you like your sparkling rosé a bit different - less polished, more personality - this one’s a belter. Light, fizzy, and totally natural, it’s got that ‘just one more glass’ vibe. Perfect for sunny days and sharing with pals who love to try something new."

Producer Info

Strange Kompanjie is a collective of winemakers in South Africa’s Voor Paardeberg and Wellington regions, known for pushing the envelope with natural, low-intervention wines. They work with dry-farmed vineyards and minimal handling in the cellar to let the grapes and terroir shine.

This Grenache Rosé Wine is made using the ancient Méthode Ancestrale, which means it’s bottled before the first fermentation is finished — no added sugar, no second fermentation, just pure grape juice doing its thing. The result? A softly fizzy, unfiltered natural wine with a wild streak.

The grapes ferment with natural wild yeasts and are left unfiltered, with no fining agents, making it a truly vegan rosé wine. There’s no dosage (sugar addition) and minimal sulphur, so what you get is wine at its most honest — cloudy, fizzy, and full of charm.
